New AVR XMEGA family with ultra-low power LCD controller

 
 

Atmel added an LCD controller to the popular AVR® XMEGA™ microcontroller (MCU) family. The integration of an LCD controller reduces design complexity and lowers overall system cost, while providing ultra-low power consumption for applications including utility metering, home automation, climate control, industrial control, sports equipment, toys, eTokens, medical equipment, power tools, fire alarm systems, and other systems that require a user interface.
The LCD controller in the AVR XMEGA B microcontrollers supports up to 4x40 segments on the 100-pin B1 devices and up to 4x25 segments on the 64-pin B3 devices. If you do not need all the LCD segments in your application, up to 16 of the LCD pins can be used as general purpose I/O (GPIO) pins. Atmel AVR XMEGA product information

Nuvoton expands its ARM Cortex-M0 NuMicro family

The NuMicro® family of Nuvoton is based on ARM's CortexTM-M0 low power, high performance microcontroller. The built-in Flash of up to 128 Kbytes supports ISP, IAP and ICP for easy program update. Its internal SRAM supports up to 16 Kbytes.
Flexible connectivity options are provided by high-speed UART, SPI, I2C, I2S, LIN, CAN Bus and USB interfaces. Connectivity to the real world is ensured by the 8-channel 12-bit ADC and two analog comparators. Apart from its high integration, the Nuvoton NuMicro Cortex-M0 family is designed for a wide operating voltage (2.5 V ~ 5.5 V), high ESD performance and industrial/automotive temperature range to satisfy most of the industrial control, data communication and consumer products applications.

Future Technology Devices International Limited (FTDI) has added two more cables to its USB to digital level serial interface product offering. The new products, which make up the company’s C232HD USB 2.0 Hi-Speed to Digital Level UART cable series, each incorporate one of its FT232H Hi-Speed USB interface ICs, mounted on a compact circuit board contained within the USB connector at the end of the cable. Receive and transmit buffers with 1 kByte capacities allow efficient transfer of high levels of data. The signal levels are either +3.3 V (for the C232HD-DDHSP-0 version) or +5 V (for C232HD-EDHSP-0 version). Datasheet

 
Integrated LED Driver with Average-Mode Current Control
 
 

The HV9967B is an average-mode current control LED driver IC operating in a constant offtime mode. The IC features an integrated 60V, 0.8O MOSFET that can be used as a stand-alone buck converter switch, or connected as a source driver for driving an external high-voltage depletion-mode MOSFET. The HV9967B is powered through its switching output when the integrated switch is off. Hence, the same external MOSFET can be used as a high-voltage linear regulator for powering the IC. Off-Line 800V Digital Green-Mode PWM IC
 
 

The iW1810 is a high performance AC/DC power supply control device, specifically targeted for low cost, high efficiency, and compact power supplies. The iW1810 uses iWatt’s proprietary digital primary feedback technology eliminating the need for secondary feedback circuitry while achieving excellent line and load regulation, and maintaining stability over all operating conditions without the use of external loop compensation components. Pulse-by-pulse waveform analysis allows for a loop response that is much faster than traditional solutions, resulting in improved dynamic load response. Electronic Assembly developed the EA DIP122-5 line of displays with LED background illumination for extreme lighting conditions. The line covers indoor and outdoor applications as well as use in direct sunlight. The EA DIP122-5 is available in three colors: amber, green/yellow, and blue/white. The yellow/green (EA DIP122-5HNLED) and amber (EA DIP122J-5NLA) variants are particularly well suited to the outdoors and extreme lighting conditions such as direct sunlight, while efficient LED background illumination facilitates operation in lower-light settings. Compact LCD module for alphanumeric displays, DIP-Module 1 or 2 lines by 8  
 
 

Electronic Assembly introduced a new extremely compact, yet versatile display unit with the EA DIPS082-HN. Measuring only 40 x 20 mm, the dot matrix module can display up to eight numbers, letters, or symbols per line. A single-line version is also available as is one with LED background illumination. LCD supertwist display technology guarantees high contrast. The base version displays information in dark blue against a neutral background. When ordered with the optional LED background illumination, this information appears in black against a yellow/green background. The integrated display controller is HD-44780 compatible. 192 characters (ASCII, Japanese, and Greek characters) are already supported by the ROM and users can define up to eight additional characters if they so choose. The display can be operated using a single +5-volt power supply as well as a +/- 2.7-volt or +/- 3.3-volt supply. Connection occurs via a 4 or 8-bit data bus with RS, R/W, and E control lines.
