Two new 2-port fast Ethernet controllers for embedded Ethernet applications Logo

Asix announced that it has rolled out two new Ethernet IC solutions. The AX88742 and AX88783 are the latest series being added to the ASIX’s Embedded Ethernet product portfolio. The 2-port Ethernet devices can be configured as a fully managed, Layer-2 switch with the third port being connected to any host processor. Using AX88742 with 32-bit PCI microcontroller or AX88783 with generic 8/16/32-bit microcontroller, designers can provide 2-port Ethernet connectivity to the embedded systems to distribute voice, video, and data remotely over the network. The AX88783 is a 2-port Ethernet switch featuring a third port, 32-bit Non-PCI/SRAM-like host interface. The AX88742 is a 2-port Ethernet switch with the third port being connected to a 32-bit/33MHz PCI host interface.

AT42QT2160; Integrated Touch and Slide Control Panel IC for use in mobile devices

The QT2160 implements 16 touch channels and a slider (using 2 to 8 channels) as well as LED control, IO expansion and a 2-wire serial interface, compatible to the industry standard I²C bus. The IC is ideal for use as a small control panel processor in battery driven consumer devices such as mobile phones, personal media players, PDAs, digital picture frames and other mobile appliances. It is based on Atmel's QMatrix™ and QSlide™ technologies, has very low power requirements and provides a very wide range of host programmable input/output configurations.

FT2232D - Dual USB UART/FIFO IC Logo

The FT2232D is lead free and pin compatible with the original FT2232C and FT2232L devices.  All the original device features are supported with some additional features available including a CPU-style FIFO mode and an extended operating temperature range.
This device features two multi-purpose UART/FIFO controllers which can be configured individually in several different modes.  As well as a UART interface, a FIFO interface and the Bit-Bang IO mode of the 2nd generation FT232B and FT245B devices, the FT2232D offers a variety of additional new modes of operation including a Multi-Protocol Synchronous Serial Engine (MPSSE) interface which is designed specifically for synchronous serial protocols such as I2C, JTAG and SPI bus.

VNC1L - Vinculum USB Host Controller Device Logo

The VNC1L USB Host Controller ICs not only handle the USB Host Interface, and data transfer functions but owing to the inbuilt 8/32-bit MCU and embedded Flash memory, VNC1L encapsulates the USB device classes as well.  When interfacing to mass storage devices such as USB Flash drives, VNC1L also transparently handles the FAT file structure communicating via UART, SPI or parallel FIFO interfaces via a simple to implement command set.  The VNC1L device features two USB Ports which can be individually configured by firmware as Host or Slave ports.
VNC1L brings cost effective USB Host capability to products that previously did not have the hardware resources available.  We anticipate that these devices will be especially popular for adding USB Flash drive connectivity to a wide range of consumer and industrial products.  As VNC1L comes complete with FTDI's in-house developed firmware, there are no USB software stacks to license, indeed, no knowledge of USB is required to use these devices.

USB security dongle ideal for providing application software and physical system access Logo

FTDI announced the availability of its USB-Key security device. Using a unique, hard-coded identification number, the device can interface to any USB host or hub to provide application software access control (security dongle) or as part of a more sophisticated key-based physical access control. During manufacture, the USB-Key has a unique FTDIChip-ID number burnt into it. This number is only readable over the USB interface, making it ideal for PC or embedded security developments. The USB-Key, compatible with USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 specifications, derives its power from the USB interface and does not require any external supply or battery.

NVE’s IL260-Series five-channel high-speed digital isolators are CMOS devices manufactured with NVE’s patented* IsoLoop® spintronic Giant Magnetoresistive (GMR) technology.
All transmit and receive channels operate at 110 Mbps over the full temperature and supply voltage range. The symmetric magnetic coupling barrier provides a typical propagation delay of only 10 ns and a pulse width distortion of 2 ns, achieving the best specifications of any isolator. The unique fifth channel can be is used to distribute isolated clocks or handshake signals to multiple delta-sigma A/D converters. High channel density makes these devices ideal for
isolating ADCs and DACs, parallel buses and peripheral interfaces.

IL500 Series Digital Isolators Logo

NVE introduced a new series of low cost digital isolators. Targeting the ADI 1Mbps parts, the IL500 series offers many advantages over the competition. The IL500 series has:

• 2 Mbps data rate.
• A sync function similar to the “refresh” used by ADI. However, the Sync function can be turned on of off to achieve lower noise that the competition and can be linked to other chips on the PCB to ensure any noise is synchronous.
• Better PWD, skew and propagation delay figures
• Narrow and wide SOIC packages as well as MSOP.

PLX announced two new PLX® ExpressLane™ PCIe Gen 2 switches with low lane counts: the PEX 8604 (four lanes, four ports), PEX 8606 (six lanes, six ports).  The two switches deliver all the unique features available in their higher-lane-count siblings, including the exclusive PLX performancePAK™ and visionPAK™ suites, non-transparency ports, smallest package footprints, and low power requirements.  These new low-lane-count PCIe Gen 2 switches are ideal for price-sensitive, mass-production market segments such as set-top boxes, DVRs and multi-function printers. The new PEX 8604 and PEX 8606 low-lane-count, low-power (0.8W typ.) switches include features such as non-transparency (NT), configurable port flexibility (x1 or x2), true peer-to-peer fan-out, and two virtual channels (VCs) per port that help ensure quality of service (QoS).  All PLX Gen 2 (5GT/s) switches are fully backward-compatible with the PCIe Gen 1 (2.5GT/s) standard, allowing designers to reap the benefits of this higher-performance technology, even in Gen 1-based systems.  Design engineers also benefit from the industry’s most advanced software and hardware development kit (SDK/RDK) products developed specifically to support PLX silicon.

Each switch provides four DMA channels to support the high data rates required in storage systems, servers, networking, control plane and embedded markets. By offloading the DMA function typically required of the processor, PLX's DMA-capable switches increase system performance and create a wide range of new options for next-generation PCIe designs.  
The ExpressLane PEX 8619 (16 lanes, 16 ports), PEX 8615 (12 lanes, 12 ports) and PEX 8609 (eight lanes, eight ports) PCIe Gen 2-compliant switches offer flexible and configurable ports ranging from x1 to x4 on all three devices, with up to x8 on the PEX 8619. The four DMA channels can support high-speed data transfers between I/O devices connected to any of the available ports, while maintaining independence from the unique transparent switch functionality with up to 3-Gbit/s throughput per DMA channel.
